Quality and work organization with advanced automation in Portugal

In this paper it is analysed the relationships between work organisation and quality systems in firms that uses some forms of advanced automation. Are characterised the existing quality control structures in the Portuguese industry, and the main factors that hidden or fosters the development of sociotechnical methods of quality control organisation strategies. Are analysed some industrial cases that explains more clearly the critical issues of the implementation of quality systems and work organisation systems. A few recommendations are given about the possibilities for the development of new forms of work organisation and the quality systems associated to automated manufacturing systems

Reconstrução e Edificação do Pilar Defesa Nacional

O Trabalho visa estudar a Reconstrução e Edificação do Pilar da Defesa Nacional, com vista a obter contributos que permita a Portugal melhorar a sua participação em intervenções em estados em situação de fragilidade, no âmbito da reforma do sector de segurança e dos processos de estabilização e reconstrução. Começamos por analisar a temática da situação de fragilidade dos estados, as ameaças e as agendas internacionais subjacentes e identificamos as razões e formas, em sentido lato, das intervenções de Portugal. Tendo em conta que o modelo de intervenção de Portugal assentava numa Estratégia Nacional sobre Segurança e Desenvolvimento, investigamos os modelos das Organizações Internacionais e Aliados que contribuíram decisivamente e são referência para a melhoria do modelo nacional e levantamos as potencialidades e vulnerabilidades deste modelo. Estudamos e sistematizamos os impactos das intervenções no Afeganistão, na Guiné-Bissau e em Timor-Leste, onde houve contribuição de Portugal, com base em relatórios, opiniões de especialistas e entrevistas a participantes nas missões. Verificamos que uma estratégia coerente de longo prazo, resultante da integração das agendas e estratégias internacionais e alinhada com a estratégia nacional do estado intervencionado, oferece maiores condições para o sucesso. Concluímos que a Estratégia Nacional de Segurança e Desenvolvimento, como base do modelo de intervenção de Portugal em estados em situação de fragilidade, deverá continuar a ser implementada e operacionalizada para o que, apontamos contributos chave. A título de conclusão final sugerimos ambém medidas complementares nos vários níveis de decisão e execução das intervenções que permitem melhorar a proficiência individual e colectiva no terreno e capitalizar a visibilidade obtida, no sentido da satisfação mais cabal dos interesses de Portugal. Abstract: This work aims to study the Reconstruction and Building of the National Defence Pillar in order to seek contributions that allow Portugal’s improvements on its participation in the interventions toward the states in situation of fragility, in the framework of the security sector reform and the stabilization and reconstruction processes. The study commenced by analysing the fragility concept, the threats and international agenda concerned and we made out the reasons and ways of Portuguese interventions toward these situations. Considering that Portuguese intervention model is based on the National Strategy on Security and Development, we went up to the international organisations and Allies models which have decisively influenced the national model, and might contribute for its improvement, in the near future. We have drawn up as well a list of strenghts and weakenesses from the analysis of the Portuguese model. We studied and attempted to capture the impacts derived from the interventions in Afghanistan, Guinea-Bissau and East Timor, where Portugal also has been engaged. It has been investigated by the research based on reports and participants interviews. We came to a conclusion that a coherent long-term strategy, as the end result of the integration of international strategies and agendas fully aligned with the national strategy of the state in situation of fragility, offers better conditions for success. We have got at the conclusion that the National Strategy on Security and Development as the basis for the Portuguese model of intervention toward the states in situation of fragility it should keep on being implemented the structures and processes, becoming more operational for what the study offers some key contributions. By way of practical conclusion we suggested some complementary measures for several levels of decision about intervention, which fuels individual and collective proficiency on the ground and it gets along with a better value of the gathered international visibility by Portugal

Wood and building construction in the Convent of Vilar de Frades (Barcelos, Portugal): the beam systems of the 16th century

The monastic and conventual complex of S. Salvador de Vilar de Frades, located in the municipality of Barcelos (Portugal), has an attested occupation since the 11th century. As a result of the different constructive phases, the current edification integrates a diversified group of material and raw material applied according to different construction techniques. Through a methodological approach that favours the intersection between different types of sources, the present article aims to analyse wood as building construction material in Vilar de Frades, namely in the beam systems of the 16th century, as well as in the long-term articulation between liturgical furniture and the edification.Madeira e construção no convento de Vilar de Frades (Barcelos, Portugal): os sistemas de vigas do século XVI O complexo monástico - conventual de S. Salvador de Vilar de Frades, localizado no concelho de Barcelos (Portugal), possui uma ocupação atestada desde o século XI. Em resultado das diferentes fases construtivas, a edificação atual integra um conjunto diversificado de materiais e matérias - primas aplicadas de acordo com diferentes técnicas construtivas. Influence of the cross-section geometry of a cylindrical solid submerged in an acoustic medium on wave propagation

This paper studies wave propagation in the vicinity of a cylindrical solid formation submerged in an acoustic medium generated by point blast loads placed outside the inclusion. The full 3D solution is obtained first in the frequency domain as a discrete summation of responses for 2D problems defined by a spatial Fourier transform. Each 2D solution is computed using the Boundary Element Method, which makes use of two-and-a-half-dimensional Green's functions. This model is implemented to obtain Fourier spectra responses which make it possible to identify the behavior of both the axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric guided wave modes, when the cross-section of the elastic inclusion changes from circular to smooth oval.http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6TW5-44W4412-2/1/730c9aeee648dd67ed04d4a46003f0a

Potencialidades do uso da folha de cálculo na construção de tabelas e gráficos estatísticos

O uso dos computadores, seja através de software ou da internet, tem marcado uma presença cada vez maior no estudo da Estatística. No caso da folha de cálculo, tratando-se de um software de fácil acesso, ele tem sido usado nas escolas por professores e alunos, sobretudo no caso da Estatística. Tendo por referência dois estudos realizados sobre o uso da folha de cálculo na construção de tabelas e gráficos estatísticos, envolvendo alunos do 7º ano, neste texto comparam-se o desempenho dos alunos na construção dos gráficos com e sem a folha de cálculo e avaliam-se as suas perceções acerca do uso da folha de cálculo. Em termos dos resultados, destacam-se um melhor desempenho dos alunos quando usam a folha de cálculo e reações muito favoráveis à utilização da folha de cálculo

Detecting cells with low RNA content colonizing artworks non-invasively: RNA-FISH

Various non-invasive RNA-FISH methodologies were tested in this work. Um novo conceito estratégico para a Europa

A crise económica na União Europeia, não sendo um problema específico desta organização, trouxe à luz do dia as fragilidades da moeda única e da integração em que se consubstancia o seu projeto de desenvolvimento. A crise do euro, a par da sobreposição de alguns Estados-membros, como a Alemanha, face às instituições com poder decisório, denuncia os desequilíbrios estruturais de que padece o sistema e que devem motivar uma abordagem assente num novo conceito estratégico. Impõe-se aprofundar uma nova Europa, dotada de poderes mais fortes e autónomos, do ponto de vista do interesse geral da União, que seja suscetível de permitir concretizar, com solidez, a integração económica e política em que assentam as bases do seu sucesso e que, acima de tudo, permitiram a esta região do mundo conhecer o seu período de paz mais duradouro e próspero de sempre

O uso da folha de cálculo na construção de gráficos estatísticos por alunos do 7º ano

Este estudo teve como principal objetivo investigar a utilização da folha de cálculo por alunos do 7º ano na construção de gráficos estatísticos, nomeadamente os aspetos que devem ser considerados na sua integração no ensino da construção de gráficos estatísticos, as potencialidades e limitações do seu uso na aprendizagem da construção de gráficos estatísticos. Para tal foi realizado um estudo de natureza qualitativa, em que foi implementada uma intervenção de ensino sobre construção de tabelas de frequências e gráficos estatísticos, privilegiando o trabalho dos alunos em pares e com recurso à folha de cálculo. De entre as razões que favorecem a introdução da folha de cálculo na sala de aula, neste estudo destaca-se a posibilidade de tratar grandes quantidades de informação com ganhos de tempo, a relativa simplicidade do seu manuseamento expressa num conjunto de soluções prontas a usar e a grande apetência dos alunos para explorarem as tecnologias
